10/29: FINISHED. OMG.

I AM SO GLAD I ASKED.

Somehow the comment I started got lost.

But this is what I mean when I say things are best left in your hands: this is so much sadder and tawdrier than I expected, and it's better for that. And it gives more context to Nino's defensiveness in "Alibi", and that line from "Headlines", the one about Ohno consenting to be with Nino. Nino doesn't seem to believe that this is something that Ohno wants, too, and Ohno didn't really help matters here by using Nino as his alibi.

Oh, seriously, c4m, I feel like it's my early birthday party tonight. <3!!! Thank you!

Ah, well, I know writing for you means getting your awesome feedback, so it's fun for me, too.

this is so much sadder and tawdrier than I expected
That's kind of how I felt when I wrote it! It's not a happy fic. I don't know that I would write anything like this if I hadn't already written the resolution to it.

Nino definitely has some issues he's clinging to.

this comment has a footnote.

I reread "Alibi" this morning to see if it felt changed. This:

"I'm sorry. Let me take it back," Ohno says.

Nino starts to say ten different things, but all that comes out is, "Don't."

was sad enough when I thought it was Nino protecting something stolen and shameful but still somehow good, Nino getting for a moment something he isn't supposed to want and isn't supposed to have but can't help but enjoy anyway. Now, though, it's heartbreaking, that this is what happened and this is how sick Nino felt over it and still Nino clings to it when Ohno tries to undo it. And:

"I probably would have," Nino continues, raising his eyebrows. "I'm disgusting like that. Desperate."

The story was weighty enough to begin with, honest enough to draw me up short when I read it the first time*, and that was one of the lines that resonated with me the most (probably that one and this: "You don't even care right now, do you?" Nino says, trying to keep some humor in his voice.) But still, I didn't get the extent of what Nino was admitting to there, and I didn't understand how deeply he believed what he was saying.

What I am trying to say is that I feel like I have stuck my quarter into the supermarket toy vending machine and gotten the golden egg in return. I didn't expect anything in return when I asked for this, for reasons outlined above. Thank you again for sharing this snippet. I think probably everyone who read "Alibi" was interested in knowing what happened.

Also, it kind of pleases me to hear that you wouldn't have written this if you didn't already have a resolution for it. I have a friend who I love to torment because she wrote a deeply miserable little Akame scene and then just abandoned them in it. I couldn't stand to think of even a fictional Nino left to spend eternity feeling this way.

* = Really! As in, I started reading it kind of inattentively, found myself quickly thinking, "No, wait, this isn't bad ..." and before the end was almost shivery with happy surprise. As soon as I finished, I called my best friend who isn't even into jpop and told her that there was an amazing new story out that she had to read right now. I love that story, and so here's some belated feedback for it.

edit: oh my god i would be dead of shame right now if it weren't for the fact that you have no room to point and laugh when it comes to comment editing.

Ha ha, yeah. I'm kind of an "edit this post" junkie, so comment fic and I have difficulties!

Now, though, it's heartbreaking, that this is what happened and this is how sick Nino felt over it and still Nino clings to it when Ohno tries to undo it. and I couldn't stand to think of even a fictional Nino left to spend eternity feeling this way.
Oh, I know. I make this Nino so terribly sad, and I feel bad about it, until I remember that he gets Ohno in the end and It Will Be Okay.

I'm so happy I'm not the only one who (over?)analyzes fic like this. At this rate, we may have to exchange AIM SNs XD

adhfajfd I am a notorious overanalyzer of fiction, this is why I really really hate leaving feedback that says more than, Nice story! Thanks! :)) I know I come off as a complete freak. When I leave comments like this, it's because I just can't help myself, despite my best intentions. It's also why I love your stories, because they stand up to overanalysis. They don't tell all their secrets at once.

This comment prompted a dark night of the soul, wherein I pondered all the aim sns I have held in the past, debated which might end with me stuck in awkward conversation with exes, and questioned my ability to come up with witty chatter on the spot. I've decided it will all be okay in the end, particularly if I make a shiny new sn. Which I'll message to you.
