They haven’t finished their appetizers yet, but Nino already wishes he hadn’t come. It’s not that Nino doesn’t understand Sho and his friends when they talk about the economy. It’s just that he really can’t make himself care. So, he ends up staring across the table at Nori’s equally bored girlfriend, attempting to make small talk about the food.

Then Mai arrives. Anthropology graduate student who just returned from researching the results of micro-loans in North Africa Mai. That Mai.

Nori’s girlfriend throws Nino a knowing look, and, as much as Nino hates having “knowing looks” with people’s girlfriends, he returns it.

The ride back to Nino’s apartment is, unsurprisingly, dominated by Sho praising Mai’s accomplishments.

“I mean, really fascinating, isn’t she?”

“I would say ‘captivating,’” Nino adds, turning perhaps a bit too sharply. “Mesmerizing, even.”

“I hope she does take that job with the documentary team. I can’t imagine what’s holding her back. I mean, lecturing here is nothing compared to the experiences she’ll have in the field.”

“Well, it’s her fiancé, right?”

Sho frowns thoughtfully, watching the city lights from the window. Nino turns up the stereo.

They haven’t taken off their jackets yet, but Nino’s hands are in Sho’s hair, pulling him close to crush their lips together. Sho responds, hands sure on Nino’s hips, pulling him close until Nino slides down Sho’s torso and tugs at his belt.

“Nino, we just, can’t we,” Sho stammers.

“No time for that,” Nino explains, pulling Sho’s pants down just far enough to free his half-hard cock.

“Nino,” Sho repeats.

It’s a weak protest, and Nino doesn’t heed it, fingers wrapped around the base of Sho’s cock while his mouth closes over the head. Nino’s eyes flick up and there’s something truly wicked about how he enjoys Sho’s exasperated reaction in the dim light. Sho staggers back against the door, sighing and running his fingers through Nino’s hair. Then, Nino stands up and walks to the bathroom, closing the door behind him.

The door is locked.

“I’m taking a shower,” Nino calls back.

“Nino, open the door.”

“I won’t be long.”

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Sho chuckles.

He hears the water start.

“Nino, you son of a bitch, open the goddamn door or I swear to God I will-”

Sho nearly falls forward into Nino, naked and grinning with one hand still on the doorknob. Sho grabs his hips again, pushes him back towards the shower, kissing desperately as he struggles out of his jacket. Nino keeps them from falling into the spray by bracing himself on the towel rack, laughing as Sho fumbles with the buttons of his shirt. Sho looks up at Nino again and sighs.

“You are so incredibly screwed up.”

“Does it fascinate you?” Nino asks, batting Sho’s hands away to finish unbuttoning him.

“Yes. I’d call it captivating. Mesmerizing, even.”

Nino doesn’t look up at Sho’s face, preferring to concentrate on getting him fully undressed before pulling him under the water. Sho runs his hands through Nino’s wet hair and kisses his forehead.

“If you don’t want to come any more,” Sho begins.

“And leave Erika by herself? We were going to do Pictochat under the table next time.”

“You are the most interesting person I know,” Sho promises.

“Well, obviously."

"And also the most frustrating," Sho adds, dipping down to run his lips over Nino's neck.

He doesn't need to see Nino's self-satisfied smile to know it's there.
